Surroundings
Mensdorf is the southernmost of the five localities in the municipality of Betzdorf and is part of the canton of Grevenmacher, in the east of the country. The first traces of a settlement date back to the time when the Roman road from Metz to Trier joined the Reims-Arlon-Trier road between the present-day localities of Mensdorf and Beyren. At 386 metres, the Widdebierg is one of the highest hills in the canton of Grevenmacher and was once worshipped as the Celtic deity Deus Veraudnus.
In the centre of the village is a cultural centre built on the site of the former presbytery and school. The old neighbouring forge has been restored and converted into a concert hall and meeting rooms. There are also a few small businesses, a café and a large playground.
The ‘Menster Brill’ area extends along the Syr over an area of about 40 hectares, between Mensdorf and the motorway bridge Luxembourg-Trier. It is part of the ‘Schlammwiss-Brill’ nature reserve, designated in 2018, and is the centrepiece of the European protected area ‘Syre Valley from Moutfort to Roodt-Syre’. There are more than 150 different species of birds and other animal species.
Mensdorf is in the immediate vicinity of several large towns such as Grevenmacher and Junglinster, as well as the German border. Kirchberg in Luxembourg is only 15 minutes away by car.
The ‘Betzder Panorama-Tour’ is a 40.5 km circuit that completely encircles the municipality and offers a magnificent view of the valley and the various localities. Due to its length, it is divided into 6 stages. Part of the route includes the ‘Via Vera’ cultural trail, which tells the history of the municipality with information panels.

Mensdorf est la plus méridionale des cinq localités de la commune de Betzdorf et fait partie du canton de Grevenmacher, à l’est du pays. Mensdorf est la plus méridionale des cinq localités de la commune de Betzdorf et fait partie du canton de Grevenmacher, à l’est du pays. Les premières traces d’une agglomération remontent à l’époque où la voie romaine Metz-Trèves rejoignait la route Reims-Arlon-Trèves entre les localités actuelles de Mensdorf et Beyren. Avec ses 386 m, le « Widdebierg » est l’un des plus hauts reliefs du canton de Grevenmacher et était à l’époque vénéré comme une divinité celtique « Deus veraudnus ».
Au centre du village se trouve un centre culturel construit sur l’ancien presbytère et l’ancienne école. L’ancienne forge voisine a été restaurée et transformée en salle de concert et en salles de réunion. En outre, il y a quelques petites entreprises ainsi qu’un café et une grande aire de jeux.
La zone « Menster Brill » s’étend le long de la Syr sur une superficie d’environ 40 hectares, entre Mensdorf et le pont de l’autoroute Luxembourg-Trèves. Elle fait partie de la réserve naturelle « Schlammwiss-Brill », désignée en 2018, et constitue la pièce maîtresse de la zone protégée européenne « Vallée de la Syre de Moutfort à Roodt-Syre ». On y trouve plus de 150 espèces différentes d’oiseaux et d’autres espèces animales.
Mensdorf se trouve à proximité immédiate de plusieurs grandes villes comme Grevenmacher ou Junglinster, ainsi qu’à proximité de la frontière allemande. Le Kirchberg au Luxembourg est à seulement 15 minutes en voiture.
Le « Betzder Panorama-Tour » est un circuit de 40,5 km qui fait le tour complet de la commune et offre une vue magnifique sur la vallée et les différentes localités.
